Preincarnated History: Wiki here!"

Connie spent the majority of his life in the small village of Ragako. Because Ragako was located within Wall Rose, Connie lived his entire life without ever encountering the horrors of the titans that existed outside of the walls. Even as the titans penetrated Wall Maria and drove out all of the humans, there Connie was ignorant enough to eagerly question another about what a titan really looks like.

Connie enlisted in the 104th Trainee Squad once he was of age after Wall Maria fell despite the people of his village believing there was no way someone of his stature could become a solider. It was there that he met some of his closest friends and would grow into one of the strongest soldiers in the entire squad, eventually ranking 8th at their graduation.

However, before he could graduate, the titans breached Wall Rose and Connie was thrown headfirst into a battle where he would witness many of his comrades fall. Throughout the battle, Connie was one of the few who attempted to remain optimistic and keep everyone’s spirits up. When he met up with a heavily traumatized Armin Arlert, he attempted to calm the boy down and scolded Ymir for assuming the death of Armin’s entire squad and speaking so casually about it with Armin right there.

Later on, the group encountered an abnormal titan that seemed obsessed not with killing and eating the humans, but with absolutely tearing each and every titan apart. The group used this titan to devise a strategy wherein they would lure the rogue titan to the overrun supply depot where many soldiers were trapped. Though they made it there safely and the rogue titan kept the titans outside the building busy, there were a number of small titans that had made it into the supply room within the building. Left with only guns and very limited gas and blades, Armin devised a strategy to blind the titans with gunfire while a select group of soldiers took out the titans from above. Connie, being one of the most competent in the group, was selected for this task but was unable to finish it off. Thankfully, Mikasa and Annie intervened before Connie and Sasha, who also failed at killing her titan, could be killed.
Thanks to the group’s efforts, they were able to resupply, and thanks to the rogue titan turning out to be their comrade Eren transformed; the battle was later won when Eren plugged the wall with a gigantic rock. Connie participated in the battle, but did nothing notable until the fighting subsided. Along with Jean and the other trainees, he helped recover the fallen and regurgitated soldiers to have them burned, causing him to break down crying along with many of the others. Days later at the graduation ceremony, Connie had to choose which branch of the military to join. Connie, along with many of the others from the 104th trainees squad, decided to join the scouting legion despite initially wishing to join the military police. All that he saw in the previous battle kept him from being able to sitting idly by within in the inner walls, contributing nothing to humanity’s cause.

Thusly, as a new member of the scouting legion, Connie participated in an excursion outside of the walls with the rest of the legion. This would turn out to be a ploy to uncover and capture those that transformed into the titans that broke down the walls. Connie wasn’t involved in the majority of the action, but by the end of it he along with everyone else discovered that one of his comrades from the 104th trainees squad, Annie Leonhart, was a titan-shifter and tried to capture Eren.

Connie along with Ymir, Christa, Reiner, Berholdt, and Sasha, was suspected of being a conspirator with Annie, and was kept away in a building near Wall Rose without any of their gear while their backgrounds were investigated. Connie and Sasha both note that their homes villages are nearby, a fact that strikes terror into their hearts when a large group of titans is sighted inside the wall.

Connie, now completely resolved to see his village no matter what the cost, was able to gain approval to do so along with Reiner and some other soldiers. Upon reaching his village, Connie finds the places completely trampled, and not to mention deserted. Horrified and confused, Connie initially believes that everyone had been eaten, but is convinced by Reiner and the others that without any blood or corpses, it was probable they had escaped. The others made sure Connie didn’t see the horses still tied up, which would have annihilated the only hope Connie had that his family was still alive. As he’s leaving, he notices an immobile titan draped over the ruins of his home. When turning to exit with the rest of the crew, he swears that he heard it talk to him, that it welcomed him home. While Reiner dismisses this, Connie remains very shaken.

The group reconvened and sought shelter within a castle, although it wasn’t long before titans besiege it. Without any maneuver gear to fight back with, the 104th squad was ordered to hide within the castle. After several scrapes with death as titans slowly overtook and invaded the castle, including Connie using his resourcefulness to cut the muscles of a titan’s jaw that had clamped onto Reiner, the group was pushed to the rooftop. With all of their commanding officers dead, hope seemed lost when Ymir shifted into a titan, rescuing them all from certain death. While Connie questione Ymir’s loyalty initially, all is made clear when she saves their lives. Even as she was overwhelmed, the Scouting Legion along with Eren and Mikasa arrived to eliminate the remaining titans and save the day.

Shortly after the events at Utgarde, it was revealed that Connie’s squad mates Reiner and Bertholdt were actually the titans that broke down the walls five years ago. In the ensuing chase, Connie tried everything he could to convince them to stop and remind them of the years they spent as friends, pleading with them to remember their humanity.

Reincarnated History: Rather than rending apart titans and swinging through air, Connie finds himself in this life rending apart french fries, flipping burgers, and running around the kitchen of one of Locke City’s many McDonalds. Connie grew up in a house far more populated than their budget could hold, him being the middle child between two sets of two sisters. Often strapped for cash and unable to afford proper clothing for their little boy, Connie’s parents would have him wear his older sister’s hand-me-downs, leading to much teasing and ridicule during Connie’s young life. His sisters weren’t the perfect siblings either. After years of being teased over and over by them for having a buzz cut hairstyle, Connie took his revenge on the world by growing a thick, glorious afro. He would get teased for this too, of course, but it remains a point of extreme pride.

Connie took it in stride though, because nothing molds you into the ultimate class clown like a good ribbing for half of your life. If he was going to make people laugh, he may as well do it on purpose. He gained an excellent sense of humor and used it to spread joy wherever he went. Although “spreading joy” often meant “annoying 80% of the people in the immediate area.” Of course with being an eccentric goofball all the time, Connie’s grades would suffer, not that he was ever terribly smart to begin with.

However, rather than feel incompetent or stress out about his lack of smarts and grades, Connie accepts it. Knowing he’ll never get a scholarship to college, he sets aside some of the money from his paychecks aside towards college. Most of the rest of the money he earns goes to his family and whatever scraps are left go towards buying himself actual men’s clothing. While not exactly responsible, Connie has managed to balance school, work, and band practice with surprisingly non-disastrous results.

First Echo: As a birthday gift, Connie received a pass for a special outing of bungee jumping. However, upon leaping through the air at high speeds, he started to recall a different setting. He remembered himself whizzing through an old fashioned looking town by some sort of wire-system. Surrounding him were groups upon groups of gigantic naked people. Yeah, much screaming ensued.

Preincarnation Personality: Connie isn’t the brightest crayon in the box, no, not by a long shot. In fact, he was the only one of his group of trainees to salute with his hand on the wrong side. While initially protesting the fact that he may not be that smart, Connie eventually accepted this quality, saying things like, “Even I’m dumb enough to know this.” But, as his instructor from his training days said, he makes up for it with his nimbleness and sharp turns. While he may not always be smart enough to pick up on the many subtleties of battles or follow complex plans to the t, he can certainly use his agility to wriggle himself out of difficult situations.

Off the battlefield, Connie is very upbeat, loud, and otherwise a little ball of energy. He tends to emote a great deal more than most of his squad mates and it is very rare for him to be seen holding back his emotions. He grins when appeased, smirks when getting into trouble, yells when he’s angry, and cries openly when in despair. Connie never hesitates to show how he feels no matter the circumstance.

However emotional he is, Connie has the tendency to be a little more laid back than many of his squad mates, if not only because he tends to be dumb enough for certain situations to pass right over his head. When he and many others were detained out of suspicious that they might be Annie’s accomplices, yet weren’t told that was the reason why, he was much more bored than he was worried. In fact, when some of the others got suspicious why the commanding officers had their 3D gear and they didn’t, he decided it was probably “to fight bears.” This isn’t to say that he’s calm in all situations, as he will mostly certainly scream and cry as much as the next soldier when he’s in danger of being consumed by a titan, but Connie does his best to not get too serious when he doesn’t necessarily need to.

Despite the fact that he isn’t always sure which side it’s on, Connie’s heart is always in the right place. When he finds Armin psychologically broken, he does his best to help him and screams at Ymir for insisting that his entire squad is probably dead. Connie always has the others in his mind, and never fights purely in the name of his own self-preservation, but rather for the safety of everyone around him. As scared as he might be, he is more than willing to face down as many titans as he has to protect his friends. As he said to others in the 104th Trainee Squad with him, his goal is to grow old with all of them, drink together and tell stories. His friendships mean the world to him, and this is hammered home as he pleads with the traitors Reiner and Bertholdt to give up and prove that their relationship wasn’t just a lie.

One of Connie’s more subtle character traits is his desire to prove himself and his struggles with his own confidence. While he doesn’t struggle with his supposed uselessness as severely as his comrade Armin does, it is certainly something that sits with him for much of his life. Connie notes that the people of his village ridiculed the idea of him ever becoming a soldier because of his small stature. He sought to join the Military Police in order to prove himself to them, though he ended up deciding to join the Scouting Legion instead for personal reasons. There are also numerous occasions in which others, most notably Reiner, rescue him. Connie visibly hates these moments when others need to put themselves in danger because he got himself into a bad situation. Connie very seriously swears to Reiner that he will pay him back in kind and won’t continue to be a liability.

Any differences: One of the biggest differences in Connie’s life is simply the state of his family. Rather than leaving them for years and years, he stays very tightly knit with them. Additionally, rather than simply parents, Connie has a wealth of sisters that he’s stuck dealing with; he has two older and two younger. Instead of being the catalyst for his journey to prove himself that his family is in canon, he instead is showered with their love and affection almost constantly. There is of course light teasing within the households, but it’s never anything other than playful.

When the scariest thing in your life is being grounded by your Mother and not being eaten alive by gigantic naked people, you develop a little differently. Whereas he might be inclined to take it easier in canon, Connie in his reincarnation is constantly sweating the small stuff. Whether it is managing his work hours, his homework, or his wallet, Connie tends to be very high strung. There is a lot of arm flailing and a lot of yelling as Connie is always trying to make sure everything in his life is absolutely perfect.

Connie also has developed a great deal of confidence, not only in his glorious, perfectly styled afro, but in his character as well. Where Connie might worry about not being strong enough or screwing up in his preincarnation, he now exudes an aura of perfect peace with himself. He understands his shortcomings and strengths perfectly, and has a certain swagger to everything he does. Yes, even when he’s flipping burgers at McDonalds. Things that should be points of insecurity like his height or his lack of conventionally useful skills are instead things he laughs about and openly accepts.

Abilities: Ranked number 8 of the top 10 trainees, Connie shows an incredible amount of combat prowess. While mostly praised for his agility, Connie is still a respectable solider in all other areas, and a tenacious fighter. He has a mastery of the 3D maneuver gear, something that allows him to propel himself through the air by latching onto structures with hooks and swinging. In order to battle titans, he is also specially trained to wield two extremely sharp swords. In order to cut away the nape of the titans neck, their weak spot, Connie like all soldiers has been rigorously trained to be accurate and precise with these attacks at all time.

Roleplay Sample - Third Person: Connie stared down his little sister, like a wolf leering at a wounded bunny--except that the wolf wants to protect the bunny and feed it chicken soup instead of eating it.

“Are you just going to keep pouting? C’mon, smile or something.” His sister refused, remaining completely silent. Connie in turn rolled up his sleeves.

“We’re gonna do this, huh? Okay, fine,” and with that he lent forward and stuck his head out in her direction. “Do it. Touch the ‘fro. Touch it and satisfy all your deepest desires.”

Despite some impressively dramatic finger wiggling, he got nothing still. Connie groaned and leaned back into his chair where he slunk down in shame. He used to be hilarious. When did the common cold negate his ability to be funny? Oh. Oh no. Was he losing his touch? Was this the first step on the road towards becoming a boring adult!? Suddenly it was about so much more than cheering up his sister. It was about reclaiming his identity. He could do this. A sick little girl won’t ruin his confidence streak.

“Uh, uh…Okay! Hey, knock knock!”

Another bout of silence. Looked like he’d have to play both roles.

“Who’s there?” “Ice cream.” “Ice cream who?” Connie’s eyes like onto his sisters, giving her a facial expression that says nothing but that this is going to be the funniest goddamn thing she’s ever heard.

“…Ice cream if you don’t let me inside!”

If it was possible for silence to become even more intense, it just did.

“Fuck you’re right that was the shittiest joke ever.” Connie sighed, reaching down besides the chair and picking up a roll of paper towels. He unraveled them quickly, leaving only the cardboard cylinder. He then handed it to his sister.

“Fine. You win. Let’s compromise. Just beat me over the head with this until you’re sufficiently amused. Sound good?”
